The third round of the Manx Trials Club Championship of
2008 took place at Eairy Beg on Easter Monday
with three laps of eleven sections in the forest.
Ride of the Day came from Isle of Man Centre Champion, Juan Knight, in the
Expert class who produced a nigh on perfect
ride with the loss of a single dab. Jamie Blackburn continued to show a
return to form on his recently acquired Gas Gas
narrowly beating Nigel Sharp into third place. The Lace brace in fourth and
fifth was won by Robbie showing off his
advanced riding skills in the testing conditions.
In the hotly contested Clubman class Michael Cannan turned out a top ride to
hold off the chasing pack, narrowly beating
young guns Jonny Notman and Stuart Woodward. Stephen Collins won the battle
of the Tiger Cubs in this class beating
Club Chairman, Juan Readshaw, to the fourth place slot.
The Sportsman Class turned out to be the closest fought of all with, Howard
Sharkey, eventually taking the win by a single mark
from former Centre Champion, Stuey Clague, both of these riders halving the
score of third place man, Rob Taylor.
Kevin Whiteway won the Twinshock Class convincingly from Sammy Ball. Paul
Ansermoz held off fellow Committee member,
Geoff Griffiths to take the final podium place.
Neil Gibson took the win in the genuine Pre-65 Class with Andy Sykes on his
trusty Bantam in runner-up spot.
Josh Brain won the Youth Expert Class from current Club Champion Tom
Maddrell with Kieran Jones hot
on their heels in a very close third.
Young Jordan Birchall rode extremely well in his debut Youth Expert ride to
finish just one mark behind Ryan Corkill.
Olly Megson won the Youth Inter class with recently promoted Carl Owen and
Oliver Lace producing excellent rides
on the Clubman route.
Thanks go to all of the observers who manned the eleven sections.
The prize draw was won by Mike Harding who will be presented with a bottle
of Bucks Fizz at the next event.
The Awards Evening was held on Good Friday at the Douglas Yacht Club. Joe
Yeardsley, who was away competing in the
Youth Nationals, won the Sealey Youth Trophy and Lindsay Sharkey won the
Chairman’s Award.
