The first round of the Manx Trials Club Championship of 2008 took place at the Howstrake on Saturday 9 February
in bright but cold conditions. The four laps of eight sections on the cliffs were tricky and testing.
The premier class was won by Michael Jackson with a loss of 61 on the challenging expert sections.
Second place was taken by Kevin Millward who managed to stay just ahead of a spirited performance by Saskia Baxter.
Colin Scarffe took the Clubman class with a steady ride from Sam Ansermoz, out on his new Sherco,
with Michael Owen claiming the final podium place.
The Sportsman Class was won convincingly by Howard Sharkey even though he was missing his regular minder, Thomas!
Peter Blackburn took the Pre-65 class with a sponsored ride on Phil Readshaw’s Mick Grant Cub,
with Andy Sykes on his trusty Bantam in runner-up spot.
Ride of the day came from Josh Brain in the Schoolboy Expert Class with a brilliant ride losing only 16 marks.
Second spot went to Tom Maddrell on 31 which made these two young riders first and second overall on the day.
The Schoolboy Intermediate class saw an on-form Olly Megson take the win from Craig Norrey in second spot.
Both Callum Millward and Juan Lace rode well in the Schoolboy Novice Class with Callum just taking the win
on the slippery going.
Thanks go to all of the observers who turned out to make the event a very enjoyable start to this year’s championship.
The club’s annual Awards Evening will be held on Friday 21 March at the Douglas Yacht Club.
Tickets can be obtained from Julie Molyneux at £8 each.
