The third round of the Manx Trials Club Championship took place at South Barrule in bright, sunny
conditions on Sunday morning over four laps of eight sections for all classes.
The 2009 club championship is being run as a series of NO STOP trials comprising just two routes.
The Expert and Clubman riders tackle the more difficult route, whilst the remainder of the field have
an easier route.
Nigel Crellin took the win in the Expert Class from Jamie Blackburn in second place.
Sam Ansermoz and Steve Collins battled it out for the win in the Clubman Class with Sam on his
Gas Gas just pipping Steve on the Triumph Cub. Saskia Baxter produced a strong ride in this
class to claim the final podium place.
Enduro man, Russell Millward, took the honours in the Sportsman Class from newcomer,
Jamie Wright.
In the hotly contested Twinshock Class ex island centre champion, Neil Christian, onboard his
Yamaha, staved off a challenge from father-in-law Phil Ward. Phil suffered machine problems in
the closing stages but just did enough to hold off sidecar man, Jonathan Kelly.
Triumph Cub mounted, Colin Scarffe, had an excellent ride to take the class win, having the
second best score on the easier route. Jim Davidson did well to complete the course after
suffering chain problems on his BSA.
World round competitor, Josh Brain, put his recent experience to good effect dropping the
least marks of the day to claim the Youth Expert win. Jordan Birchall had a great ride
to take second spot with the sections proving very challenging for all of the competitors.
Carl Owen, to his credit, rode extremely well on the tough sections to bring home the
Youth Intermediate win.
Top man in the Youth Novice class at the moment, Brandon Bailey, claimed another win
but rapidly improving, Ben Collins and pocket rocket, Adam Kelly, will be forces to be reckoned
in the future.
The club would like to thank all of the observers for their assistance during the day and to DAFF
for the use of the venue.
