Scarlett turned out to be the perfect setting for the first round of the Manx Trials Club Championship 2011.
The bright sunny conditions attracted a good entry of riders and a large crowd of spectators. The sections laid out by Peter Blackburn, Geoff Griffiths and Colin Scarffe proved to be spot on in their composition which led to close fought battles in each class.
Ride of the day went to Josh Brain who completed the challenging Expert course for the loss of only one mark. Josh was pressed hard by Nigel Sharp who was only 4 marks adrift after a slow start.
In the hard fought Clubman class, Neil Christian had a fine ride, dropping only 2 marks over the 32 sections. Damian Owen took the runner up spot with Oliver Megson a close third.
In the Sportsman class Neil's father Peter completed the family double losing just 3 marks.
The Pre-65 class was the closest of the event where similarly mounted Triumph Cub riders David Harding and Jim Davidson could only be split on most cleans.
Yamaha mounted Jonathan Kelly fought off a strong challenge by Road & Track's Sean Skillicorn to take the Twinshock class win and in the second family double of the day, son Adam took the Youth Novice win.
Thanks go to all of the observers who turned out to assist.
